Creation by Avalik Creation by Avalik
Long time no upload. I have a few larger paintings to upload soon, but this is to tide you. So happy I got a new piece up, it's been a year.

ACEO of an anthro raven holding a star in its beak, inspired from various mythologies of the raven creating the earth with the sun, stealing the sun, stealing stars, and so on. I know it doesn't look anthro, but you may notice the shoulder and a bit of the arm under the wing. Photographed, might scan later if the quality sucks.

The full-view size is the exact (or very near to) as the original.

PS: That thing in the corner is my new signature. Fingerprint with an upside-down "A".

Medium: Various coloured pencils, acrylics, watercolours, indian ink, white paint pen and salt on Illustration Board.
Time: 6 hours

Impact/Technique: The real strength of this image, and largely responsible for its success is the inherent interesting nature of your technique. Superb use of mixed media to create a wonderfully textured, layered, and subtly colourful image. The loose, painterly quality makes it very emotive and very interesting to look at, while the skillfulness of technique and accuracy of anatomy are laudable and give it a very, very sound basis from which to "speak," which it does very aesthetically.

While I cannot say it would necessarily look better, but it would perhaps benefit if you had used a spot of the same brightness used for the "world" in his eye a bit more, to make it just a tiny bit brighter. It would help perhaps connect the raven a little more strongly to the contents of its beak. Or perhaps you did already, but it was lost in translation from traditional to digital representation? In that case, you can't be said to be at fault.

Vision: I very much like the idea and general concept/composition of the piece. However, without reading the description, I might not have connecting the brighter contents of the beak to be the world/universe, despite the suggestive title. I'm not quite sure how it could be done, but perhaps a stronger gradient radiating out from that point could be accomplished (without sacrificing any of the success of the existing composition) to more strongly suggest the bright spot being an "origin" rather than just a "brighter spot." Again, however, this could be faulted on the translation from traditional to digital, which I can't know for certain.

Despite this "failure" for me as the viewer to immediately make this connection, I think it is still nevertheless a success artistically, very much so.
